“The Measurement” is a reminder that the level of sadness brought about by a person’s death is also a measure of the love and happiness that person enjoyed in Life.
THE MEASUREMENT
If your heart is heavy and your sadness hard to bear,
Remember all the happy times your friend with you did share.
Consider just how fortunate anyone must be
To have a full and happy life, a loving family.
All who are placed upon this earth, many decisions they must make,
When they die, the living judge the choices they did take.
If they could, for one last time, look back upon their life,
So very few would e’er recall the troubles and the strife.
Happy times and loving friends, the respect of all you meet,
Are noble aims for all to seek, before their final beat.
Not every soul will reach that goal, they’ll seek to no avail,
They’ll fall along the wayside, as time after time they fail.
When someone does achieve that goal, great sadness will descend
On all they knew and all they loved before their Time did end.
But understand this, if in their life, someone truly succeeds,
The sorrow cannot be for them, or for any of their gracious deeds.
For sorrow is a selfish trait, reserved for just oneself.
It’s something everyone must endure, despite material wealth.
When a loved one passes on, when Life has run its course,
Experience well your loneliness, your sorrow and remorse.
This is the final Measurement of where their values lay,
The more sadness their passing brings, the more love that came their way.
So, if upon your final day, many share in the pain,
You too will have reached the Ultimate, that anyone can gain.
